PROPOSAL FOR LADDER PLAY

Chapel Hill Pickleball plans to offer two “ladder” play opportunities to its members this fall. Ladders operate like they do for other sports, ie, you play at a level similar to your own. We would follow the USAPA doubles ladder league setup (utilizing their format, as well as their software management). In doubles play you will be grouped with three players of similar ability and you would play three games together, with each of your three teammates as your partner.

Our initial plan is to offer 2 evenings/week of ladder play. One evening for 3.0 rank and under players (intermediate). And one evening for 3.5 rank and above players (advanced). Tentatively, intermediate play would be on Monday evening. And advanced play on Wednesday evening. In both cases there would be three games (6 teams) playing from 7pm-8pm, and 6 more teams playing from 8-9pm. We would use three of the Ephesus courts for ladder play during the 7-9pm slot, with the other three courts being available for open play. Current planning suggests ladder play would begin late September and continue until Nov 2.
We welcome any feedback and suggestions you have. Please send your comments via email by Wednesday August 24th, so that we can incorporate them into our planning. You can email any of Brad Hemminger (bmh@ils.unc.edu), JB Marr (jmarr.jr@gmail.com) or Jim Wilson (jamesjwilson1942@gmail.com).

Thanks to Mark Siewers for volunteering to set up and to manage our doubles ladder league.
OUR NEWEST BEGINNER’S ORIENTATION COACH
CONGRATULATIONS to Jennifer Johnson (Jen) for choosing to give back to pickleball by volunteering to assist with our Orientation Program for new players.

Jen qualified as an Orientation Coach this summer and has enthusiastically embraced her duties by already introducing multiple new players to pickleball. Jen’s preference is to conduct evening orientation classes. So, if you know someone specifcally wanting an after-work pickleball orientation, Jen is the coach to see.
Thanks, Jen. And well done!

COURT COURTESY AND COMMON SENSE
As per CH Parks and Recreation policy, water is the only beverage allowed on the courts. Glass containers are prohibited for safety reasons. And alcohol is strictly forbidden on all city property.

Also, the city does not provide clean up service for our courts. It’s up to each of us to police and clean them. So, please pick up after yourself. If you bring a water bottle onto the court. Please carry it out with you. There’s a trash and recycling bin right outside the front gate. Entirely too many discarded plastic bottles, coffee cups and food wrappers are being left behind. We need to be good stewards of this fantastic court complex made available for us. Thanks.

See you on the courts.
