Folks,
just a reminder that our Chapel Hill Pickleball Town Hall is tonight (Sunday) at 5:45pm at the Community Center on Estes. We’ll meet in the meeting room (on right as you enter).
We hope you can join us and share your thoughts about pickleball in Chapel Hill.
Town Hall Agenda 6/4/2017, 5:45pm CH Community Center
Purpose of Town Hall: Inform members about pickleball current activities, future planning. Answer questions, concerns, take suggestions about pickleball play at Chapel Hill facilities. Agenda is below. We will capture notes from the meeting and distribute to all members.
Chapel Hill Pickleball purpose is to promote and develop pickleball in Chapel Hill, and to provide input to P&R about play and programming. Organizationally, it is comprised of everyone playing in Chapel Hill facilities (you, the members), the USAPA ambassadors for Chapel Hill, and the steering committee (the representatives of the membership) which help with understanding the needs of our community, and developing and planning pickleball play in our community.
CH P&R: Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation is responsible for the facilities and play on the facilities. CHPB works with P&R to provide input on facilities and programming, and to provide programming and training. To facilitate communications between the groups, P&R provides a representative (ex-officio) to sit on the steering committee, and attends the annual town hall meeting.
Steering Committee: The Chapel Hill Pickleball Steering Committee meets 3 times a year, and helps advise the town’s Parks and Recreation staff on programming for pickleball courts on town courts, as well court use policies. The committee also helps develop new programs and provide outreach for all members of the pickleball community. Elections occur annually, and new members are appointed to 2 year terms. There are 7 elected members from the Chapel Hill Pickleball community, plus the USAPA ambassadors. Ex-officio members include a Parks and Recreation representative and former USAPA ambassadors (these are non-voting positions). Ideal members would be good representatives of the local pickleball community, good at listening to their community needs and working cooperatively to help create a positive environment. They are the on court representatives of our pickleball community. It is best if our collection of members is diverse in representing different experience levels, ages, and times/places of play in Chapel Hill.

Open Discussion:
We welcome your questions, comments, criticisms, suggestions!
Some suggested discussion items:
Advanced courts during morning play (similar to indoors). Set aside some courts for advanced and have separate rotation (via paddle saddles for them). Tentative proposal: two courts (1,2) set aside for advanced play. They use paddle saddle near court 1. Rest of courts use paddle saddle near court 6 (and 3 if necessary).
Women’s only play time: 18 signed up. Possible times: Thursday morning Ephesus, or Hargraves Thursday? Or ???
Singles Ladder League: 20 signed up. Need volunteer to run ladder (submit scores). Mark Siewers has setup USAPA ladder for it. Time to play (weekend? Before competitive play times?).
Court behavior. What to do if you see inappropriate court behavior? What is P&R’s process for handling complaints?
